About the Artist
Joyfull Praise Choir (JPC) is a Zimbabwean gospel music ensemble founded in 2013 by Gamaliel Blessing Madindi. The group grew out of Madindi’s passion for music and his desire to create a platform where gifted musicians could develop their talents and minister through gospel music. The choir initially developed in Gweru before establishing a wider presence in Zimbabwe’s gospel music scene. The group spent its early years developing its sound and repertoire, recording several projects before achieving a major breakthrough with “Ngoro Yeminana” in 2018. The song helped bring Joyfull Praise Choir to national attention and became closely associated with the group’s energetic style of praise and worship. Their growing profile subsequently led to recognition beyond Zimbabwe, including a nomination at the Maranatha Africa Continental Awards. Joyfull Praise Choir's music combines contemporary gospel with African musical influences, with songs performed predominantly in Zimbabwean languages. Their catalogue includes “Ngoro Yeminana,” “Aiwa Mwari,” “Jeso Jeso,” “Mbiri Yose,” “Anovhura Nzira,” “Samatenga,” and “Wandinovimba Naye.” The choir has also collaborated with other Zimbabwean gospel musicians, including Janet Manyowa, Everton Mlalazi and Takesure Zamar Ncube. The group has released several bodies of work throughout its journey. Among them is Season 3 (Jeso), released in 2021, followed by the 2023 project Joyfull Praise Season 4 (For Jesus), a 16-track gospel collection featuring songs in Shona and other African languages. Beyond recording music, Joyfull Praise Choir has served as a training ground for developing gospel musicians and vocalists. Former members and collaborators have credited the group with helping musicians develop their vocal ability, confidence, discipline and experience in live ministry. In 2026, Zimbabwean vocalist Batsie Munyoro specifically acknowledged the choir as an important part of his musical development. The choir continues to release new music and participate in gospel events and worship gatherings. Its recent catalogue includes “Wandinovimba Naye” and collaborations released during 2026, demonstrating the group's continued activity in Zimbabwe's contemporary gospel music landscape. Through its music and ministry, Joyfull Praise Choir seeks to use gospel music as a means of worship, encouragement and Christian expression, while providing a platform for musicians to develop their gifts and reach wider audiences.
